Ishmael Barunga - I Swear

Mowanjum Synth Pop

Ishmael is a Mowanjum/Derby stalwart in the music scene. He's fronted many bands since the age of 15, including Red Alert (now The Krui3ers) and Loaded Dice, but has changed direction with these three songs. Inspired by Desert Reggae bands from youtube videos of Bush Bands Bash, plus a deep love of RnB (he does a ripper cover of Akon's "Right Now") and 80s pop.. the result.. a synth pop-like sound that's still uniquely Ishmael. 

Ishmael wrote these songs using built in drums/tones on his keyboard and recorded w Kallum Mungulu before producing them further at 6dby with Sam, adding layers of drums, harmonies (w Elena), an immense sax solo from Christian on “I Love You” and other bits. The result is a really special couple of tracks that take the Derby sound in a different direction!
